The National Museum of Costa Rica celebrates the 75th anniversary of the abolition of the Army with a free cultural festival next Sunday, November 26, from 9 am to 4 pm, in the museum gardens. Visitors will be able to enjoy music, exhibitions, food and craft sales, and activities for the whole family. Admission to the museum will be free for nationals and residents who present their identification.
The festival is part of the commemoration of the Day of the Abolition of the Army, which is celebrated every December 1 since 1948, when then-President José Figueres Ferrer abolished the Army after the civil war. The National Museum, which was a former military fortress, became a symbol of peace and democracy in Costa Rica, and today houses a collection of more than 100,000 objects that tell the history and culture of the country.
