The play, which is based on the homonymous book by the renowned writer José León Sánchez, tells the story of Jacinto, the prisoner #1713 of the island of San Lucas, who along with other inmates suffers the atrocities of the penitentiary system of the time. The staging is a tribute to the memory of the author, who passed away this year, and to his literary legacy
The play has the adaptation of Caridad Svich, a prominent American playwright, and the direction of José Zayas, a renowned Puerto Rican director. The remounting of the show is in charge of the artist Humberto Canessa, who has worked with Teatro Espressivo since its beginnings.
"La isla de los hombres solos" will be presented for two weekends at Teatro Espressivo, after having participated in the International Hispanic Theater Festival of Miami, where it received an excellent reception from the public and critics. The performances will be on Fridays 14 and 4 August, Saturdays 15 and 5 August and Sundays 16 and 6 August, at 8 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
The general price of admission is ¢10 thousand (plus VAT and service charges) and can be purchased at the theater box office or online. In addition, special packages are offered that include dinner and free popcorn to enjoy before or during the show. The play is recommended for people over 15 years old accompanied by an adult.
