San José’s Chinatown is getting ready to welcome the Chinese New Year with a big cultural and gastronomic festival that will take place next Saturday, February 10, on the Chinatown Boulevard - Paseo de los Estudiantes. The celebration, organized by the Municipality of San José, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China, and the Chinese Colony Association in Costa Rica, aims to spread the richness and diversity of Chinese culture, as well as to promote exchange and coexistence between the Chinese and Costa Rican communities.
The event will feature various activities from 10 in the morning until 6 in the evening, including traditional dances and ballets, calligraphy, the dragon dance, martial arts, traditional games, and musical performances. In addition, attendees will be able to taste the varied Chinese cuisine at a fair that will have the participation of more than 10 restaurants specializing in Asian food, offering typical dishes such as fried rice, spring rolls, Peking duck, dumplings, chop suey, and dim sum, among others.
According to the Chinese lunar calendar, this year 2024 corresponds to the year of the wood dragon, a symbol of authority, prosperity, and good fortune. To celebrate, all residents of San José are invited to participate in this unique and fun party in the heart of the city.
